What shall I do?
One day as I was walking from the Center to my office, during the lunch break, I was about to pass by a nice elderly couple that seemed to start earlier their daily afternoon walk. We greeted each other and as we were heading in the same direction and they seemed delighted to socialize, I joined them. The lady shared the fact that this is the first time for them in Herghelia and that she is totally amazed of what is happening here. She mentioned that it was her husband’s idea to come but she congratulates herself for being open to it. The man underlined the fact that he heard about Herghelia quite long ago on Speranta TV (The Romanian Hope Channel) and that he is a faithful watcher of our fare well parties, seminars and other social media materials that we produce and post. We were in the second week of the session and I realized, as we engaged deeper in our conversation, that they were attending church the previous sabbath and my sabbath school class, a permanent class designed especially for our lifestyle guests, called – Living your life in a personal relationship with God. I didn’t know back then what was their religious background but I noticed that the man was active in the class and had very pertinent interventions. It was obvious not only that he is familiar with the topics we covered but also that he has a relationship with God.
Our previous session in Herghelia – patients and staff
As we continued our walk that afternoon, suddenly the man remembered that he has an appointment soon, so he apologized and retrieved, meanwhile excitingly announcing that his wife is free therefor she is welcome to stay. When it was just the two of us she told me that she wants to take the chance and share with me a burden she has on her soul: Although they are a happy married couple for more than 40 years, she is an Orthodox Christian and he is an Evangelical. At the beginning of their marriage everything seemed fine, she said, as far as this difference in their beliefs is concerned, apparently he joined her church, their children being also baptized as Orthodox. But he continued his way of worship as he was used to in his childhood and more than that he was always interested to know more and explore more, in his search for God. He listens to Christian TV programs, he attends different religious meetings… ”I never interposed between him and his search for God, she continued, but I always felt that is him that needs to change, to get more mature spiritually. As far as myself, I always thought that – I am an Orthodox (from generation to generation…) and this is the way I am going to die, an Orthodox. But, she continued, I could not ignore how happy he was in your church Saturday… so I began to think that probably the level of closeness in our relationship would be even better if I would do something about this need he has to get closer to God.” Then she turned to me and asked frankly: “Mrs. Dan, what shall I do?”
The way she talked, deeply moved and concerned, encouraged me to believe that she was contemplating seriously in taking action. After a short silent prayer I told her, I do not have an answer but I know that every inclination for good, every emphatical thought that comes in our mind toward each other it’s a fruit of the Holly Spirit, it’s a sign that our Lord works in our heart (Iacob 1,17). On the other hand, everything that He starts He brings to a completion, He does not leave a sincere person in need of direction without an advice. My reasoning was that I would not give her an advice but encourage her to seek the advice from the Lord. So I encouraged her to pray about and I promised her that I am going to also pray for this matter and we will keep in touch.
One particular morning, after the session was over, as I remembered my promise, I called them up but I could not reach them. Later I tried again several times but with the same result. Next day though, my phone was ringing and to my surprise was him, Mr. C. He sounded very happy to connect and after caching up with the news for a while (on how much they love Herghelia and how much they already miss it), he took the chance to also ask me an advice. Not aware of the discussion I’ve had with his wife, in the session (that was our little secret…) he shared with me his part of the story: how he always was a person of peace and did not want to disturb his wife in any way possible, how he grew up as a Protestant and his soul yearns for a closer connection with God but he, as a personality, is not decided but rather wavering… What shall I do, Mrs. Dan? he asked, in the end. Consistent in my approach, I suggested him that may be would not be a bad idea for him to just invite his wife sometimes to pray together and study the Bible (New Testament) together. Surprised and a bit reluctant to my suggestion he later agreed to give it a try. When I hanged up the phone, that morning, I’ve had the feeling that the angels rejoiced over that conversation. May it be for a closer walk with God for this dear family, their happiness on this earth but also for their salvation.

Newsletter XIX Summary
In 2014, a few months before the passing of Vasile Dan (Nick’s father), he imparted his firm belief that God’s vision for Sanitariums and medical missionary work remains unchanged – to establish these institutions around the globe, situating one near each major city.
It was 2001 when I got a chance to visit Herghelia for the first time. I came here to present the program of Sola Scriptura’s Institute of Bible Studies, for the blind. At that time as a young couple – my husband and I were involved in this project as volunteers. We always believed in mission and found ways to get involved.
As a therapist in Herghelia I am delighted to meet people of different professional backgrounds, different social status, different personalities, different beliefs and spiritual orientations. One of my patients in a spring session was Mrs. F.H, a very delicate, special lady, that used to be an university professor in theatrical art and piano. She just got retired and had difficulties in handling the new amount of free time in her life…
One day as I was walking from the Center to my office, during the lunch break, I was about to pass by a nice elderly couple that seemed to start earlier their daily afternoon walk. We greeted each other and as we were heading in the same direction and they seemed delighted to socialize, I joined them. She mentioned that it was her husband’s idea to come but she congratulates herself for being open to it.
Missis L. C was very eager to introduce to me her sister S – who was accompanying her to Herghelia for the first time. When my presentation was over, the two ladies enthusiastically approached me and we happily chat together for a while. She brought me greetings from another sweet lady, a good friend of hers with whom she came to Herghelia the previous time, when we actually first met.
Coming back to Herghelia for audit this year I got the chance to meet again in the session old friends and also to make the new ones. Soon a good size study group was formed. Isaiah, my Pentecostal friend I met in Herghelia previously, was back this time and proposed to people interested in spiritual topics to join us, in our attempt to find answers to bible’s prophesies. So we decided to meet each evening at 9 p.m. in the library. We prayed together and study the Bible.
“Daniel 10 Days Challenge” is a lifestyle-changing program organized by Herghelia Lifestyle Center at the end of each Herghelia Cuisine online cooking course. Based on the prophet Daniel’s story, this challenge offers individuals a guided program to pursue a healthier lifestyle while also deepening their faith.
In a world where stories ignite change, we are blessed to share tales that touch the soul and inspire action. This year, God has graced us with narratives of courage and transformation that strengthen our mission and fill our hearts with gratitude.
Please pray for and support the Sanitarium Global Movement. We claim the following precious promise that the Lord will inspire, lead and protect each particular project started according with His plans: “The Lord has presented matters to me again and again, and given me instructions to say that God Himself is Ruler and Counselor and Guardian of every Sanitarium that shall be established”. Ellen G. White Letter 180, 1901
We want to establish a Worthy Students Fund to help prospective future Sanitarium leaders attend the annual “How to start and manage Sanitariums in the XXI Century” and cover part of the funds related to the production of a Loma Linda University Certificate online course in this field. We are working with LLU to produce such a course to be available to the SDA Church at large.
