A timing, welcomed appeal!
It was 2001 when I got a chance to visit Herghelia for the first time. I came here to present the program of Sola Scriptura’s Institute of Bible Studies, for the blind. At that time as a young couple – my husband and I were involved in this project as volunteers. We always believed in mission and found ways to get involved. I well remember the feeling I’ve had the moment when I stepped in the health center that day – the place looked so beautiful and peaceful, the whole atmosphere was so different than what I was used to, as a nurse. Everything was so special: the people that I’ve met, the delicious food that I ate, the wonderful massage that I received, all of these made a strong impression in my heart.

I remember thinking: It has to be really awesome to work in such a place! But the years passed by and that thought faded away, also. As our family grew – our Lord blessed us with two children, and we’ve been contemplating the possibility of offering them a Christian education and the need to live in the nature, away of the noises of the cities, we decided to begin searching for a place where to move. We’ve had in mind three requirements: a Christian school nearby, a SDA Church nearby and an employment possibility for me. We’ve began to look, here and there, but for a while nothing seemed proper for us: either would not meet the criteria or we just didn’t like the place or the prices were too high for our financial possibilities. But an event of 2007 really made a difference in this process’ dynamics… A family of friends that have been patients in Herghelia, decided to look for a place to move in this area and invited us to join them in a small vacation. This was the second time of our coming in Herghelia… Although we never thought before to consider moving so far away from Bucharest, it seems that the Lord brought us in this direction. The prices for land here were affordable and amazing enough, soon we realized that the other two criteria are met in a location we’ve found: it was located at a walking distance from the Health Center and being a nurse with many years of experience I’ve had hope that in the future I could join Herghelia’s team. As far as our children’s education, just 4 km away is Dr.Lind K-12 School that Herghelia started many years ago for it’s own staff.
I have to admit that besides the beauty of the place, the unexpected Christian school presence in this area scored very high in our decision to go for it. So we decided to buy the place and in 2008 we’ve began to build the house and after a long, tedious process in 2016 the house was ready and we’ve moved in. I want to also mention one other event that happened sometimes between 2008 and 2016, that also confirmed to us that we are heading in the right direction: One particular sabbath we’ve found out that Dan Family from Herghelia is visiting our church in Bucharest. At the end of their presentation, Mrs. Valentina had an appeal for those of us that love the medical missionary work to join their team in Herghelia. That call fell so timing so welcomed for my soul that I remember I began to envision myself, one day when the house would be ready and we would move to Herghelia happily stepping in Herghelia’s medical department.
I have no doubt that the call to come and work here it was God’s call for me – I seriously took it this way. And today I am here to confirm that these years were the most beautiful, the best and more fulfilling years of my life. My previous job in Bucharest as a nurse in a private Jewish hospital also brought me joy and satisfaction but nothing can be compared with Herghelia – what is here is quite special, unique. The joy of working with people, of ministering to their not only physical but also their spiritual needs, the opportunity to pray for them and with them, to introduce God to them as the best solution to their dilemmas, troubles and on top of all these, the privilege of working in a Christian setting and be part of the medical missionary work, of “God’s medical kit” ( I see myself as a instrument in His healing hands) brought me unspeakable satisfaction, fulfilment. Looking back on our journey, I am amazed on how a small thought that developed long ago in a small corner of my mind was brought to the reality. We could not see back then the way the Lord will work in our behalf but now in awe I could not help but thank and give Him glory. Seeing my joy in service at Herghelia, in many occasions my husband mentioned the fact that definitely we’ve had to move in this far corner of the country for the only reason that I may work in Herghelia. And I believe he is perfectly right!

Newsletter XIX Summary
In 2014, a few months before the passing of Vasile Dan (Nick’s father), he imparted his firm belief that God’s vision for Sanitariums and medical missionary work remains unchanged – to establish these institutions around the globe, situating one near each major city.
As a therapist in Herghelia I am delighted to meet people of different professional backgrounds, different social status, different personalities, different beliefs and spiritual orientations. One of my patients in a spring session was Mrs. F.H, a very delicate, special lady, that used to be an university professor in theatrical art and piano. She just got retired and had difficulties in handling the new amount of free time in her life…
One day as I was walking from the Center to my office, during the lunch break, I was about to pass by a nice elderly couple that seemed to start earlier their daily afternoon walk. We greeted each other and as we were heading in the same direction and they seemed delighted to socialize, I joined them. The lady shared the fact that this is the first time for them in Herghelia and that she is totally amazed of what is happening here. She mentioned that it was her husband’s idea to come but she congratulates herself for being open to it.
Missis L. C was very eager to introduce to me her sister S – who was accompanying her to Herghelia for the first time. When my presentation was over, the two ladies enthusiastically approached me and we happily chat together for a while. She brought me greetings from another sweet lady, a good friend of hers with whom she came to Herghelia the previous time, when we actually first met.
Coming back to Herghelia for audit this year I got the chance to meet again in the session old friends and also to make the new ones. Soon a good size study group was formed. Isaiah, my Pentecostal friend I met in Herghelia previously, was back this time and proposed to people interested in spiritual topics to join us, in our attempt to find answers to bible’s prophesies. So we decided to meet each evening at 9 p.m. in the library. We prayed together and study the Bible.
“Daniel 10 Days Challenge” is a lifestyle-changing program organized by Herghelia Lifestyle Center at the end of each Herghelia Cuisine online cooking course. Based on the prophet Daniel’s story, this challenge offers individuals a guided program to pursue a healthier lifestyle while also deepening their faith.
In a world where stories ignite change, we are blessed to share tales that touch the soul and inspire action. This year, God has graced us with narratives of courage and transformation that strengthen our mission and fill our hearts with gratitude.
Please pray for and support the Sanitarium Global Movement. We claim the following precious promise that the Lord will inspire, lead and protect each particular project started according with His plans: “The Lord has presented matters to me again and again, and given me instructions to say that God Himself is Ruler and Counselor and Guardian of every Sanitarium that shall be established”. Ellen G. White Letter 180, 1901
We want to establish a Worthy Students Fund to help prospective future Sanitarium leaders attend the annual “How to start and manage Sanitariums in the XXI Century” and cover part of the funds related to the production of a Loma Linda University Certificate online course in this field. We are working with LLU to produce such a course to be available to the SDA Church at large.
