Dr. Nicolae Dan and his wife Valentina visited our church in Lawrenceville, GA in 2007 when they talked about Herghelia Lifestyle Center and the Medical Missionary School that was opened a few years before. When the church program was finished, I was waiting for them so I could inquire more about their school. “Do you accept students of all ages or only young people?”  I asked. And the answer was: “Anyone who wants to come to our school is welcome.” I was very happy to hear that because I considered myself still young enough at 55 years old, to become a medical missionary.

I asked them also if I could start school that fall, and to my delight, the answer was, Yes! Immediately, I put together a plan to get there on time.

Viorica Moraru – The Enthusiastic Physical Terapist

A former Pentecostal believer Viorica is an enthusiastic Adventist and promoter of a healthy lifestyle. She loves physical exercise and has a peculiar happy/funny way of teaching it to our patients. They loved her! She is certainly the best trainer Herghelia has ever had till now!’’

At that particular time, I was helping my sister with everything I could as she was recovering after lung cancer surgery. I helped her change her diet and lifestyle and she had been on this new diet now for three and a half months. At this point, I thought that it would be so good if she would accept to go to Herghelia for 11 days, to learn more about her illness and how to change her habits for good. I was so happy that she agreed to come with me, and we arrived at Herghelia in September. For her, Herghelia turned out to be an enjoyable experience.  She had a great time! She liked both the food and the treatments. I was also very impressed with the kindness and loveliness of all the personnel working there, from the cleaning to the medical departments, including doctors, nurses, and therapists. They never start working on patients until they pray to God for His blessings to do a perfect job.

My sister left Herghelia after 11 days, with a notebook full of notes, many recipes from cooking classes and a determination to continue the new diet at home, also. I am thankful to God for healing my sister. She is still living today free of cancer!

Right after the session, I started the Medical Missionary School, and I was “the youngest” student in that particular class! Besides attending the classes, we all were supposed to do all kinds of work: cleaning, duties in the kitchen, work on the farm etc. I had worked all my adult life in labs as a chemist. Because I had never used a knife very much before coming to Herghelia, after some time, I couldn’t use my thumb anymore. The pain was excruciating and I ended up going to see a doctor. He put a cast on my hand and told me not to use it for a few weeks. I considered would be okay to continue my work using my left hand primarily, with just a little help from my right hand – the injured one. Unfortunately, when I went back to the doctor to take the cast away, my thumb was in very bad shape. So, the doctor told me that I would need surgery. I asked him to let me first try the natural remedies applied at Herghelia Lifestyle Center but he assured me that nothing like that would ever help me. I tried it anyway, and the result was amazing! God healed my hand without surgery and I can’t thank Him enough for that.

After I graduated from Herghelia, I was asked to stay and work as a volunteer in the Lifestyle Center. Later, as they opened Migdalia Lifestyle Center in Israel, I also joined the team there, for a while. Over the years, I have come back to Herghelia from time to time, especially in the summer, as they usually need help to serve a bigger number of guests during this season. I love to be involved in medical missionary work because I love people and like to talk to them in my attempt to help them understand how much God loves them. I want to help them understand how eager He is to heal their wounded hearts and teach them how to properly take care of both their body and their spirit.

My prayer is that our dear Lord will continue to bless the personnel and guests in all lifestyle centers that operate around the world. They truly are His beams of light and healing on this earth!
